Carrie Underwood has co-written a bunch of her own hits, but for the first time, a song that Carrie had a hand in writing is becoming a single for someone else! Fellow American Idol alum Lauren Alaina revealed last week that her new single is called “Eighteen Inches,” which Carrie wrote with hit tunesmiths Kelley Lovelace and Ashley Gorley. For Carrie, it’s a thrill to have one of her songs become a single for another artist, and she loves that it’s such a great fit for Lauren. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- Carrie says that Lauren reminds her of herself several years ago, and she hopes she can be a bit of a professional big sister for Lauren. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

Carrie Underwood talks about having “Eighteen Inches,” a song she co-wrote, released as a single by Lauren Alaina (:32)
“I’ve had co-writes go on other people’s albums before, but this’ll be my first single. I’ve never had that before. It’s always been really cool when someone else wanted to record one of my songs that I helped write, but to actually possibly hear it on the radio at some point, that’s gonna be really cool, and Lauren is so amazing and does such a great job. And it’s so wonderful that that song found a home with her, you know, and I think even she and even her mom, they’re like, ‘This is, like, our song — like, this is all about us.’ And it just fits her really well.”
Carrie Underwood says that she feels very sisterly toward her fellow American Idol alum, Lauren Alaina. (:38)
“All of us Idol people — we’re all part of this club. And to see…and really, all the people that have come to Nashville since, you know, their days on Idol — everybody’s genuinely talented and genuinely nice, and you know, Lauren’s no exception. I hope in some ways I can maybe be like big sister, you know? It’s like, whatever she’s gonna do, I’ve already…I’ve been there, I’ve done that. Maybe I can be like, ‘Stay away from this, and do more of this, and you know, take more pictures!’ But it’s always fun to just be able to talk to her and see that bright-eyed…and just reminds me of myself when I was just coming off of American Idol.”
