We’re glad everyone’s safe and sound after Chris Young‘s tour bus nearly caught fire Friday while Chris was in Charlotte, North Carolina, for a tour date. Late Friday, Chris tweeted about the incident, and he talked about it while he was in Kentucky for a show the following day. He says it was a close call, but some fast thinking saved the day! (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- Keep up with Chris on Twitter @ChrisYoungMusic!
- Well, we hope the only thing red-hot and glowing in Chris’ future is his current hit, “Neon,” the title track and newest favorite from the album that’s already given us back-to-back number-one hits with “Tomorrow” and “You.”
- Ironically enough, Chris and his buddy Jerrod Niemann were recently on Miranda Lambert‘s “On Fire” Tour, and it was between dates on the Miranda tour when Jerrod’s bus caught fire. And after other bus fires over the past 18 months that hit Lee Brice, Randy Houser, and Justin Moore, Jerrod was joking with Chris not long ago that he’s in line for “the club.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- And speaking of Jerrod Niemann’s bus, do you know that it’s achieved enough fame to have its own Twitter account?! Yes, you can follow Jerrod’s bus — pun intended — @JerrodsBus! And of course, we’re sure that Jerrod’s bus would want to mention that Jerrod’s new single, “Shinin’ on Me,” is available everywhere they sell great digital music, and you can also pre-order the album that features it, Free the Music, right here, on Amazon.
(A special thanks to Albright & O’Malley’s Dan Van for sharing these weekend soundbites!)
Chris Young talks about his close call with a bus fire this weekend. (:17)
“We were in Charlotte, North Carolina, and my tour manager ran on the bus, was like, ‘Off the bus now. Grab what you need, and get off.’ It was like, engine glowing red, smoke comin’ out of the back of it, and we hit it with a fire extinguisher and turned the bus off, and that’s probably…my bus driver was like, ‘Man, that’s the only thing that kept it from being in flames.'”
Chris Young was glad to have a quick emergency assist at the venue. (:16)
“He was like, ‘Man, if y’all hadn’t hit it with a fire extinguisher that, like, in seconds, it could have been in flames, ’cause it was bright red, smoke comin’ out of the back of the engine — just, craziness. So I was glad there was one of the guys at the club that hit it with a fire extinguisher, and I was like, ‘Thank you, dude.'” (laughs)
With the rash of tour bus fires over the past 18 months, including Jerrod Niemann’s bus, Chris Young says that his buddy and recent “On Fire” tourmate had been kidding him about “joining the club.” (:07)
“He laughed a couple weeks ago and was like, ‘Hey, man, you gotta join the club now. It’s gotta happen to you, too.’ (laughs) I was like, ‘Stop jokin’ about that!'”
Chris Young says he’ll skip the membership in this club. (:05)
“Yeah, I don’t want to join the ‘Bus on Fire Club.’ I’m okay not being in that one.”
