Congratulations to Carrie Underwood, who’s scored her fifth consecutive week at number-one on Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart with her Blown Away album! And it’s been quite a week for Carrie, who also hit number-one on the country radio airplay charts with the album’s first single, “Good Girl.” Amid the excitement of all the events surrounding the CMA Music Festival in Nashville this week, we caught up with Carrie, who shared some of what it means to her to see this kind of response to her new music. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- “Good Girl” is Carrie’s 15th number-one single! And in a cool bit of radio trivia, she’s now spent more weeks at number-one on the country airplay charts than any other female artist since she earned her first number-one with “Jesus, Take the Wheel” back in 2006!
- Incidentally, the music video for “Good Girl” is also a chart-topper, currently number-one at both CMT and GAC!
- And speaking of “Good Girl,” Carrie not only performed the song on Wednesday night’s CMT Music Awards, Carrie also walked away with the top prize, Video of the Year, for “Good Girl” and took home a second honor for Collaborative Video of the Year for “Remind Me” with Brad Paisley! Congrats to Carrie, Brad, and all the night’s winners!
- By the way, if you missed Carrie’s recent appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, you can catch a re-airing of the episode this Friday night, June 8th, on CBS!
Carrie Underwood says that the fan response to her Blown Away album makes her feel really good about all the work that went into the album. (:35)
“The music industry is quite unpredictable, and you never…you just never really know what people are gonna like. And you know, you do spend a lot of time working. We worked really hard on this album — took more time, I wrote more, I was really involved in the whole, you know, production side of things, and it’s just…it’s so nice, you know, to have people enjoy it, to have people go out and buy it, to have that…all the number-ones and all the accolades and things like that because it just…all that time wasn’t wasted. (laughs) All that time was really well spent, and it makes me feel good.”
Carrie Underwood feels very thankful for the success surrounding her new album, Blown Away. (:20)
“It’s exciting to have another number-one and still kind of have that this week, and the album — I don’t think I’ve ever had an album be number-one, like, consecutively since it came out for five weeks, so that’s something that’s new and fun for me. But it’s just…it is validating, it is exciting, and you know, I definitely have a lot to be thankful for.”
Carrie Underwood says that she appreciates a number-one single now more than ever. (:32)
“Getting a song to number-one definitely never gets old. In the beginning, you know, after American Idol, my first album, my first singles, I got so lucky, and so many people really got behind me from the beginning, and I had number-ones for, like, multiple weeks, and I was like, ‘This must just be the way it goes!’ And you know, throughout having more singles and more albums and stuff like that, I definitely learned it takes a lot of work to get a song to number-one, and it definitely makes you appreciate the number-one even more.”
Carrie Underwood is thrilled at the way that “Good Girl” has helped to introduce her latest album. (:27)
“You definitely want the first song off of any album to be impactful. You don’t want to spend all this time working and thinking about singles and what’s gonna happen and what should be first — you really plan it out, and you really want people to enjoy it. I mean, that’s kind of a little representation of what the rest of the album is gonna be like, so you want people to dig it. You want it to have a good response.”
Carrie Underwood says there’s an extra thrill to hit number-one during the most fan-focused time for country music. (:10)
“It’s very exciting to have ‘Good Girl’ be number-one during CMA Music Fest because there is so much stuff going on. And it’s just exciting to kind of have that spot.”
