Jake Owen may now be very happily married, but Jake was kicking up a little sand on some summertime memories when he co-wrote his new single “The One That Got Away.” Growing up in Florida, Jake met a lot of people who would come to town for a few months of summer vacation, but there was one girl in particular whose lasting impression inspired “The One That Got Away.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- “The One That Got Away” follows Jake’s back-to-back number-one hits, “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” and “Alone with You,” both from his very cool Barefoot Blue Jean Night album.

Jake Owen talks about his new single, “The One That Got Away.” (:17)
“It’s a true song for me. It’s the one on the record that I wrote, just about my hometown and the way that girls and their families would come to town during the summer and then they’d leave three months later, go back up north, start school. They would always leave, and there’s this one girl in particular I just remember I never saw her again.”
Jake Owen says that a lot of people know the feeling of wondering about a relationship that “might have been.” (:09)
“It doesn’t matter if it happened on the beach or if it happened in your hometown, somebody’s got that one person that they kind of look back on and wish…wonder what would have been.”
