Chris Young is following his five consecutive number-one hits with the irresistible feel of his newest single, “Neon.” It’s a song that Chris loves for a lot of reasons — and with its undeniably country sound, Chris feels like it’s an escaped hit from a George Strait recording session! (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- Country Trivia: Being a true fan of classic country music, one of the things that Chris loves about his song “Neon” is the reference to ’80s hitmaker Johnny Lee. Johnny hit it big in 1980 with three weeks at number-one with his blockbuster, “Lookin’ for Love,” from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack. The song was the first of a dozen Top 10 hits for Johnny, including such favorites as “Pickin’ Up Strangers” and “Cherokee Fiddle.”
- “Neon” is the title track to Chris’ latest album, which features his two most recent number-one singles, “Tomorrow” and “You.”

With his new single, “Neon,” Chris Young feels like he found the kind of song that would have fit George Strait to a T. (:43)
“Honestly, I’m surprised George Strait didn’t cut this first. I really am. I think — and I’ve said that — I think this is a song that, you know, if he’d got a hold of, he would’ve cut it. And it’s one of the reasons I love it so much. It’s just dirt country. I mean, you put this on, you know this is a country song. It’s kind of unabashed about it. It just puts it out there. And it’s really, really cool that I get to make this the title track of my record. And that it mentions that (laughs) there’s the ‘little Johnny Lee on,’ that there’s that reference in there. There’s so much about this song that I love. I don’t know if I could pick just one thing and go, ‘That’s why I cut it.’ It’s like, the melody’s great, the lyrics are great, the feel’s awesome. It’s perfect.”
