CMA New Artist of the Year nominee Chris Young is nothing if not country to the core, but Chris tells us he was flashing back to The Staple Singers‘ classic ’70s hit “I’ll Take You There” when he was recording his new single called “You.” The marriage of Chris’ style with some of that R&B vibe is a big part of what Chris loves so much about the new song. “When we went in and made it, the feel of like, do you know the song ‘I’ll Take You There’? The R&B…the (singing) ‘I’ll take you there…,’ we took that feel, if like that and a steel guitar had a baby, that’s (laughs)…that’s what this song is. And we went out to do that on purpose. I mean, it’s…obviously, the instrumentation is very, very country, but it has that kind of R&B feel to it. You know, it’s just a different song.”
