CHRIS YOUNG: Appreciating the Moments

There’s no doubt about it: it’s a really cool time to be Chris Young — and Chris is very appreciative. He’s already earned a number-one single and a Gold record for “Tomorrow,” from his recently released NEON album…the song is his fourth number-one hit in a row…his previous album, The Man I Want to Be, was certified Gold earlier this summer…he’s out on tour with Jason Aldean…he’s on the cover of the new Country Weekly, and…well, it’s just a really exciting time. We caught up with Chris this week as he talked about the thrill of his four-in-a-row chart-toppers and shared a story about telling his tour headliner that “Tomorrow” might be the song that was about to bump his song out of number-one! CHRIS YOUNG: Appreciating the Moments  Chris Young talks about hitting number-one with “Tomorrow” — and telling his tour headliner that he was chasing him into the top spot. (:56)
“Funniest conversation I’ve ever had with anybody is sittin’ there — we’re on the Jason Aldean tour — we’re enjoyin’ all these shows, and I’m sittin’ there out by his bus, and we’re talkin’, and everybody’s loadin’ stuff out, and gear’s on all of his trailers, and he was talkin’ about he had just had the number-one that Monday with ‘Dirt Road Anthem.’ And he said, ‘So, when are you guys goin’ for it?’ And I’m like, ‘Um…this week.’ (laughs) And it was ’cause, I mean, everything was just so stacked up there. I mean, literally, I think that number-one changed-over, like, every week. Like it was him, and then it was me, and then it was Zac Brown, and…just so excited because with all of that traffic, with such great music out there, that ‘Tomorrow’ cut through and got that fourth number-one in a row for us. Bein’ off the new record, the fact that we had just had NEON come out, and we got the fourth number-one, and it was just a…that one was a really, really big one for me. I was really happy to get that.”

CHRIS YOUNG: Appreciating the Moments  Chris Young says that it feels so amazing to earn his fourth number-one hit in a row with “Tomorrow.” (:35)
“Now it is actually feelin’ like a streak. I mean, even after three — you know, we had the three number-ones with ‘Gettin’ You Home’ and ‘The Man I Want to Be’ and ‘Voices’ — but movin’ to a new album kind of was…to me, everybody’s like, ‘Ah, you’re just…you’re on a hot streak now,’ and I’m thinkin’, you know, it’s a new album, new song, it’s a ballad — you never know what’s gonna happen. And the fact that we had four straight…I mean, it definitely makes you feel good about puttin’ out another single. (laughs) But it’s exciting. I mean, you never know when stuff like that is gonna end or keep goin’ or how long you’ll have that, and it’s just so cool to celebrate four.”

CHRIS YOUNG: Appreciating the Moments  Chris Young is grateful to Jason Aldean and Rascal Flatts and other headliners who’ve allowed him to help make their fans into Chris Young fans, as well. (:53)
“The tour’s great! I mean, we just did a show, actually the other night — Tinley Park, I believe, which is Chicago area. I don’t know what the end count was, but I know the number that I know for sure was 29,000-plus. And it was just insane, I mean, lookin’ out there. Somebody took a picture of us on stage and showed it to me after, and it’s just a sea of people. And the fact that I get to go out there in one night, play stuff from my new album and stuff that we’ve been able to have hits with on the radio that people might not be able to put my name with yet, that’s just gonna help us build…kind of what I’m tryin’ to create is my brand and build my music and build my fan base. So, it’s kind of like when we were out with Rascal Flatts, one of the things they told me, they’re like, ‘Steal every fan you can, dude.’ So, that’s really what we’re tryin’ to do, and we’re just tryin’ to convert some people into fans of mine.”
