The feature film Country Strong may be a few months away, but star Gwyneth Paltrow, who portrays country singer Kelly Canter, is already wowing fans with her terrific performance on the film’s title track single — one of several songs that Gwyneth recorded for the movie and upcoming soundtrack. Gwyneth says she immediately loved the song, “Country Strong,” in part because of how well it fits her character in the film, and also because she loves what it suggests about us as a country. “The thing about ‘Country Strong’ is that I loved…in terms of how ‘Country Strong’ relates to my character, she is like salt of the earth. She’s the real…I mean, there’s a line in the movie where another character says about Kelly that she’s the only one here telling the truth. You know that she’s totally messed up, but she’s very authentic, and she’s the real deal. And so I think that the song really is perfect for her, but also, it’s such a great sentiment, and it’s sort of like, the way I think of it, I think of America and being country strong. Like we’re an amazingly strong country: we’re so resilient. And that the people, you know, who are kind of not in urban areas are the ones that kind of weave the fabric of it all together, and I have a lot of respect for that.”
