Kenny Chesney is skyrocketing up the charts with his latest smash, “The Boys of Fall” — and one reason for the song’s success may come back to Kenny’s desire to keep his music true to who he is. Kenny says that he didn’t share as much of himself in his early songs, but when he made the choice to open up — to shape his music more about life as he knew it — it really made a difference. Kenny Chesney says that when he changed his way of thinking about music was when he started creating more personal songs like “The Boys of Fall.” (:26)
“I have always tried to put as much of my life into my music and how I grew up and how I live it. Early on in my career I didn’t do that much, but when my life changed as an artist is when I started really letting a lot my life in there. And I think with ‘Boys of Fall,’ I think people are gonna see that I’ve had nothing touch my life like playin’ high school football did.”
Kenny Chesney says that John Madden told him a great line about perspective. (:33)
“I knew that I was not gonna play college football. I knew that there would be an end. That’s just like life, too. John Madden, when I was interviewing him, said the best thing. He goes, ‘You know, football is just like life.’ He goes, ‘When you’re playin’, you think you’re gonna play forever.’ And when you’re really playin’…a lot of my buddies are playin’ football, you know, they’re in the moment and they’re…especially, even in high school, you know, you’re caught up in the moment, and you think you’re gonna play forever, but you’re not. And I think that this song really puts a lot of my life in there.”
