Miranda Lambert hit number-one on the radio charts this week with “The House That Built Me,” and while the song has been another big homerun for Miranda, she says that the song has been inspiring a number of people to want to make a “home run” of another kind. Miranda says, “I think it’s gonna start its own revolution in itself,” since lots of people have been telling her that it’s inspired them to return to their childhood home. Miranda loves that so many people have connected with “The House That Built Me” in the same way that she did, and she also believes that recording the song was a nice way of telling her parents “that they did a good job.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

Miranda Lambert says that “The House That Built Me” has become a catalyst for revisiting childhood homes. (:34)
“‘House That Built Me’ is like a…I think it’s gonna start its own revolution in itself, because everybody I’ve talked to says, ‘You made me go back to the house or want to go back to the house that I grew up in,” or “I’m going to in the spring,” or whatever. I mean, so many people…you know, even Joe Don, the other day, from Rascal Flatts was tellin’ me that they just tore his down ’cause the town was bought out that he grew up in, and they just tore his house down, and he was just torn up about it even tellin’ me about it. And, you know, it’s just…it’s a really touching song. I mean, it’s good to know that it makes everybody else feel the way it made me feel the first time I heard it.”
Miranda Lambert loves that her hit “The House That Built Me” speaks to how she was raised. (:48)
“When I was about five, my parents had their own business and, you know, when the phone stops ringin’ and you’re self employed…the phone stops ringin’. And so we had to move, and move in with my uncle for a while, and then we got to rent this huge farmhouse that was dilapidated…I mean, it was terrible. But it had so much potential, you know, my mom could see that, and I’m just like that now. I don’t know, I guess, we didn’t live in a nice neighborhood with a pool or have a lot, but we had everything we needed, and I don’t feel like I ever missed out on one thing. And I guess it means a lot to my parents because I think that that made me who I was: to live off the land and not have that much money and to really learn valuable lessons at such a young age. I think ‘The House That Built Me’ describes it perfectly. You know, I feel like the fact that I cut that song lets my parents know that they did a good job.”
