It’s number-one number two for one happy guy from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, as Chris Young scores his second consecutive number-one single, hitting the chart summit this week with “The Man I Want to Be.” It was only last October when Chris had his first chart-topper with “Gettin’ You Home,” and Chris says it’s just an amazing feeling to make it two in a row. Of course, while two number-ones are terrific, Chris can’t help but smile as he thinks about being on tour now with Alan Jackson. He laughs, “If I repeat this, like, 80 times, I can have the same show Alan Jackson does.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- “The Man I Want to Be” and “Gettin’ You Home” are both on Chris’ terrific second album, also titled The Man I Want to Be.

Chris Young can’t believe he has two number-one singles. (:13)
“I remember last time when we had the number one for ‘Gettin’ You Home.’ It’s just amazing; it’s a different kind of amazing having ’em go back to back. I never thought that would happen. I mean, you know, you always hope for something like that, but you can’t ever plan something like that. It’s just so cool.”
Chris Young reveals how he got the news that “The Man I Want to Be” went to number-one. (:26)
“I was asleep, and I woke up, as I usually do, at like the crack of 11, and (laughs) my phone had literally just exploded. There was about 20 e-mails, and all these calls and text messages that I had missed, and everybody just freakin’ out about the number-one. It was just such an amazing feeling to wake up and see that and find out that way, and this is just an amazing song, and I was really lucky to be able to get a chance to cut it. I was glad I cut it and not somebody else.” (laughs)
Chris Young knows the power of hitting number-one for a second time. (:27)
“It feels twice as good as it did to say I only had one number-one single. (laughs) It’s pretty amazing. And really, if nothing else, I mean, when I had that first number-one, it was like, man, this is something nobody can take away from me. You know, I will always have that written in stone on the chart, and to be able to put it with two, I mean, in my show I can go, ‘Well, I’ve got two number-ones now.’ So if I repeat this, like, 80 times, I can have the same show Alan Jackson does (laughs) since we are on tour with him right now. It’s like everything he plays is a number-one.”
