Miranda Lambert had a big night on Sunday at the ACM Awards in Las Vegas. Miranda walked home with three awards, including Video, Female Vocalist, and Album of the Year — but she admitted that the Album trophy, for Revolution, was the one she was really hoping to win. This is Miranda’s second win for ACM Album of the Year in the last three years — back in 2008, her Crazy Ex-Girlfriend album was also honored. With the win on Sunday, Miranda made a little ACM history: she is the first solo female artist to ever win two Album of the Year awards. Miranda joked that even though she’s won the award twice, her album producer has yet to give his “thank you” speech. (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
The win that really shocked Miranda was when her name was announced for ACM Top Female Vocalist. She made made her way to the microphone, but the whole time was in disbelief, and backstage, right after her win, Miranda said she “didn’t see that coming.” This was Miranda’s first win in the category after being nominated in it for the last three years. - Miranda’s third win of the night was announced even before the award show began — the video for “White Liar” was honored as the ACM Video of the Year.
Backstage at the ACM Awards, Miranda Lambert admitted she was really happy to win Album of the Year. (:32)
“I really really, really wanted this one. My album…this album is my most favorite thing I’ve ever done basically. I have said that a million times and, you know, it’s so awesome being nominated for anything, but when they said Album of the Year nominees, I leaned over to Blake and said, ‘Man, I really do want this one,’ and you know, I just don’t know what to say, I’m so proud of it. And I just hate that my producers have not got to say anything and we have won it twice (laughs), so maybe next time.” (laughs)
Miranda talks about the pressure of trying to win her second Album of the Year. (:12)
“Its really like catch 22 to win Album of the Year for the first time, because then you don’t know if you’re going to next time, and it’s a lot of pressure, but I am thrilled to death. I don’t even know what to say.”
Right after winning the ACM for Female Vocalist, an emotional Miranda Lambert talks about what the honor means to her. (:38)
“I didn’t see that coming, and I never cry and, I don’t know, I am just really in shock. And I also…it’s just, you know, the most…you get to see the fruit of what you do every night on the road when the fans come to your shows and they buy your records and you meet them at meet and greets, but you don’t get to see the respect that your peers have for you until something like this at the ACM awards, where they’re the ones voting for you. And I just can’t say how much that means to me as an artist, and that all these amazing artists — the people that I have grown up listening to and that I respect so much — respect me in the same way. It’s really a dream come true.”
