For songwriters, you never know when inspiration will strike, and Miranda Lambert‘s great new single, “Dead Flowers,” is a prime example. Miranda says that the stems in question were originally a wonderful gift, but seeing them at one particular moment — admittedly a bit on their last legs — led her to write a sad song. She laughs at the irony of it all, as she tells us, “Little things inspire…trigger somethin’ in my brain, and it goes from happy to sad, that quick.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)

“The inspiration for ‘Dead Flowers,’ even though it’s a really sad song, was actually a happy gesture, ’cause I had gotten flowers for Valentine’s. So it’s kind of sad that I wrote this song and the whole meaning behind the flowers I wrote it about was actually for a sweet, you know, sweet gift, but I guess that’s just the way it goes. Little things inspire…trigger somethin’ in my brain, and it goes from happy to sad, that quick. (laughs)”
