This Tuesday, October 14th, marks a huge day for Kenny Chesney fans with the release of the deluxe version of his new album, Lucky Old Sun. The album already has a number-one hit on it with Kenny’s smash, “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven” — recorded with Bob Marley‘s legendary Wailers — as well as collaborations with Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews, and the multi-talented Mac McAnally. In all, the deluxe edition of Lucky Old Sun has fifteen songs, including four, live bonus tracks specially recorded for the album, with two from Kenny’s Keg in the Closet tour appearance at Jimmy Buffett‘s Margaritaville in Florida and another two from an incredible date in Massachusetts. “When we play at Foxborough in Gillette Stadium,” Kenny says, it’s always an “amazing night,” both the crowd and the venue, and it’s something Kenny wanted to capture on disc. The bonus tracks “Got a Little Crazy” and “Boston” both came from that night, with the added energy of “us doing the song ‘Boston’ in Boston at the New England Patriots’ football stadium.” (AUDIO INFO BELOW)
- Anyone who heads out to their favorite store to pick up the Lucky Old Sun deluxe edition may have a surprise waiting inside their CD! Two lucky people will open their copies to find a Golden Ticket in the “Kick It Off with Kenny” contest, entitling each winner and a guest to a trip and front-row tickets to opening night on Kenny’s 2009 tour, as well as a chance to meet Kenny! It just doesn’t get much better than that!
- In addition to the four bonus songs, the deluxe edition of Lucky Old Sun offers downloadable video content, including the way-cool video used to open Kenny’s Poets & Pirates tour, as well as the music video for “Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven”!
- Kenny also has a new video on the air now at CMT and GAC! It’s a video he shot on the road for the deluxe album’s live bonus track, “Got a Little Crazy,” a song that Kenny loved and wished might have been a single in its original version on his Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates album. - While lots of fans will want to pick up the bonus songs and video content available on Lucky Old Sun — as well as the chance to win the Golden Ticket contest — all of which are exclusive to the deluxe edition releasing Tuesday, fans can also opt for the good stuff in the form of the no-frills, 11-song version of Lucky Old Sun, which hits stores on October 21st!
Kenny Chesney pulled two of his new album’s bonus tracks — including “Boston” — from Boston! (:28)
“I have four bonus tracks on this record. But where all these bonus tracks started was, I played in Boston a couple months ago. And it’s always been one of the best shows, places. When we play at Foxborough in Gillette Stadium, it’s been an amazing, really amazing night. So I wanted to capture that. And what you hear on this bonus track was us doing the song ‘Boston’ in Boston at the New England Patriots’ football stadium.”
Kenny Chesney finds that the live bonus track, “Got a Little Crazy,” has always been a great concert song. (:32)
“‘Got a Little Crazy’ was recorded the same night in Boston. But that’s one that I felt like, that I wish we could’ve gotten to on the Poets & Pirates record, as far as releasing it as a single. And I just wanted it to have some more life…and ’cause it does fit our live show. I ask the girls out there, ‘How many girls came with a group of girls? And how many guys came with a group of guys?’ And I say, ‘This song goes out to any of you all that might find yourself in a place in the morning where you really don’t know where you are (laughs). In a strange place (laughs). We’ve all been there, too.”
Kenny Chesney found a cool mix of bonus material for his new album. (:35)
“For the last several years, we did this thing called the Keg in the Closet tour, and we go to these small bars, either at a college campus — we also did Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville in Key West. And I pulled two songs from that performance that night in Key West at Jimmy’s club: ‘Soul of a Sailor’ and ‘Guitars and Tiki Bars.’ And we don’t really have these songs out anywhere other than on this extra disc. That’s why I did ‘Soul of a Sailor’ and ‘Guitars and Tiki Bars’ on this extra disc, along with the two songs that we recorded in Boston. I felt like it was a good mix.”
