MIRANDA LAMBERT: Back Me Up on This

Miranda Lambert just won one of the top prizes in country music this past weekend – walking away from the Academy of Country Music Awards with the Album of the Year trophy for her latest disc, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend – the CD that gave us the hit single “Famous in a Small Town,” as well as her current Top-20 song, “Gunpowder & Lead.” With hit singles, touring success, critical acclaim and awards in hand, there’s no doubt Miranda’s career is going places…and that’s probably a good thing. When asked by friends what kind of “back-up plan” she had in case the “crazy music thing” didn’t work out, Miranda’s answer to them was simple – “I have zero back-up plan.” Though her brother’s in college and doing great in school, Miranda says, “We’re opposites.” Miranda’s love of music is so intense that she’s never imagined doing anything else. “My back-up plan is to go be a back-up singer for somebody, or be a songwriter,” she says. With her new ACM Award in-hand, we’re guessing she’s not going to need it. MIRANDA LAMBERT: Back Me Up on This  Miranda Lambert says she’s in the music business for the long haul. (:33)
“I have zero back-up plan. People always ask me, ‘Well, what’s your back-up plan?’ A lot of older people always go, ‘Well, now you need to go to school; you need to go to college.’ I’m like, ‘Why?’ I mean, so I can fail and waste sixty-thousand dollars of my parents’ money that they don’t have? (laughs) I mean, I just knew that it wasn’t for me – and my brother, he’s excelling hugely at U-T in Austin and is like a straight-A student. We’re opposites, you know, but I just figure now, if I just keep doin’ this, I’ll have a retirement, and my back-up plan is to go be a back-up singer for somebody, or be a songwriter and get a mailbox check! (laughs)”
