Corey Kent – Cutting Outside Songs (AUDIO)
So yeah, I mean, we’ve I’ve listened to at this point thousands of songs and now that people know that one, I enjoy cutting outside songs. Occasionally they are sending you know, some of the best songwriters in the world are- and we’ve had success with an outside song. That’s the other thing that we’re getting really great quality songs sent to us. When I listen to them, I listened to thousands at this point, and I think I’ve got like five or four, ever. I am very, I mean, I’m obviously picky because they still have to feel autobiographical and completely authentic. You know, I grew up playing that red dirt Texas scene and they can sniff out BS faster than anybody. Okay? If they don’t believe you, they’re going to eat you like sharks. I mean, it’s not going to, it’s not going to be pretty. And so I think the main thing I look for is, is this believable coming from me? Do I identify with this song on a personal level? Can I make this my own? And can I make people feel what I feel when I get excited about this song? And if the answer is no to those things, then even if it sounds like a massive hit, it’s not a hit for me.
