With March being Women’s History Month, here is some great commentary from Sony Music Nashville Artists honoring influential women in each of their lives.
A female artist that has definitely influenced me from perspective of stage show, vocalist, performance, and just how much she has accomplished in her career that I look up to is Reba McEntire. If you make a Mount Rushmore of country music, I have a whole lot of reasons why she should be on there. And she’s just a fantastic person, fantastic artist, and like I said, look to her for sure. Another woman in the music industry that has really had profound impact on me, especially from a song writing perspective is Liz Rose. I got a chance to meet her really early on in my career and obviously she’s had so many hits , so many hits. But just being in a room with her, being able to learn from her, I feel incredibly lucky to have that opportunity and to have someone that’s that adept at songwriting help me learn and help guide me as a songwriter and an artist.

“Hey this is Elle King. In honor of Women’s History Month, one woman that has impacted me, my music, my life, society is my mother but also Dolly Parton.”
In honor of Women’s History Month, I want to talk about someone that has impacted my life so much and that would be my grandma. I don’t think that I would even be doing music without her support and she’s been a rock through my whole life, and I love that woman to death. I’m very proud to call her my grandma.
I feel like I say this every time, but I’m going to have to go with Shania Twain again. My mom was a huge fan of hers, so I’ve grown up listening to all her music and I actually met her one time and I talked about doing a song with her. So, it’d be cool if we got to do it. But yeah, she influenced me the most as a female. Another woman that’s had a huge impact on my life, well there’s two, my wife Katelyn and my beautiful little baby girl, Kingsley.
Yeah, I mean, you know, I think it’s hard to say that Miranda Lambert hasn’t influenced my music a ton. You know, right around the time that I started playing guitar you know she was coming into prominence in this genre and was putting out really great, really impactful songs she was writing. And so, you know, anybody that writes their own stuff and sings great and performs great is someone that truly inspiring to me.
There are many women that have shaped me as a, not just an artist or writer, but as a woman myself. Dolly Parton is a huge one for me, in all the ways, I think I have read every bit of literature there is available on the woman. I’ve gotten to work with her a couple times over the last few years, and she’s just everything you would expect and more. Ruth Bader Ginsberg, I mean I just feel like, there are so many ballsy women that have shaped me and made me fearless, and hopefully my name will be up there for some little girl someday.

“Advice current Megan would give her 10-year-old self would probably be to just dream bigger. You know, I thought I was going to be an accountant. I thought I’d be doing taxes at this point in my life and I thought that that’s just what life was gonna be and I didn’t, you know, even consider to follow what I was passionate about until it happened and I’m so glad I did.”
My Grandmother has had the biggest impact on me for a lot of reasons. She taught me how to, you know, come from nothing, and become something. She taught me how to handle yourself with pride and tact. She taught me how to walk into a room and treat everyone with respect. And, she showed me, at a time when women- it was even more difficult for women to succeed, she broke those boundaries, and she broke the mold. I don’t know if anyone in the world can inspire me more than my Grandmother did as a young kid and just what she did for this town in Nashville and songwriters. It’s unmatched. And, I was very, very blessed to grow up with that.
I mean from the very beginning Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey; their voices were just insane to me. I would sing all the songs- at the time when I was so young, I could actually hit the notes until I went through puberty, but I mean, again their melodies, their power, how strong they were, growing up just watching them I think I was extremely influenced by them, no doubt.

She is one of the greatest songwriters to ever come along and just an all around great person, entrepreneur, somebody that we look up to. And she’s blazed a trail for all women and all songwriters. So here’s to Dolly Parton.”
Hey, it’s Tenille Townes here, and in honor of Women’s History Month, I want to send so much love to Miranda Lambert. She is such a hero of mine; I’ve had the complete honor of getting to be on tour with her and open up some of her shows. I am just in awe of her art, her love for music, and the way that she takes care of everybody out there. It’s been such a blast to get to be on the road with her.
In honor of Women’s History Month, I want to send a shout out to the incredible Shania Twain. I am the biggest fan of her music, it has had such a huge impact in my life, and on the music that I’m making now.
