KAT & ALEX SIDE A EP CUT X CUT:

Kat & Alex – Let’s Find A Bar (VIDEO)
Kat & Alex – Let’s Find A Bar (AUDIO)
So Let’s Find a Bar was a lot of fun to write because we actually started drinking at 10am. Yeah, beers, we cracked some cold ones. 10 or 11 I can’t remember. Must have had more than one beer. But we wrote that when we Jared Scott and Jared Keim and we just really wanted to write a song about two people falling in love at a bar. Because it seems like that happens a lot here especially in Nashville. Yeah, especially in Nashville. So yeah, that’s Let’s Find a Bar.”

Kat & Alex – 5 On A Friday (AUDIO)
“5 on a Friday is a really really playful song it was a really really fun one for us to write. We wrote it with Austin Taylor Smith and Chris Locke. Yeah and it talks about being with somebody that is so fun to be with that you’re so in love with, that it feels like five on a Friday every time you’re hanging out with them.”
Kat & Alex – Marry You (VIDEO)
Kat & Alex – Marry You (AUDIO)
“Marry You is a really really cool song because we didn’t write the song we actually were pitched Marry You. And when we got pitched the song, we can clearly hear Maren Morris singing it which Kat’s a huge fan of Maren. And she’s got that real cool soulful voice which Kat totally radiates with that energy. So yeah, it made sense to cut a song called Marry You because we are married. So, holding hands awkwardly but married. And it’s just, it was really cool when we heard it. We connected with it. And not only that, but Busbee and Maren had written that song together. And for us that was really special because before we came to Nashville, we were looking up different producers, people to work with and Busbee was one of those people that we found out about. And we never got the chance to meet him but we feel like we kind of did with in recording his song and releasing it. Yeah, we got to get a feel for who Busbee is and hopefully we did it justice. Jinx. You owe me a- I don’t like soda. Mean either. I was like, what are you gonna say? You owe me a bottle of water.”
Kat & Alex – I Want It All (VIDEO)
Kat & Alex – I Want It All (AUDIO)
I Want It All is a song that we wrote with our really good friend AJ Pruis. And the day we went into the writers room we did not know what we wanted to write about. And AJ was like, hey, didn’t shall just get married. Isn’t that something huge to write about? And we’re like, yes it is. It is a huge thing to write about. So I Want It All is basically our wedding vows to each other in a song and every single time I sing it it just takes me back to that time and it’s just a very special song for us. It is, stole the words right out of my mouth.”
Kat & Alex – We Bought A House (VIDEO)
Kat & Alex – We Bought A House (AUDIO)
We Bought a House. I’m just kidding. The song We Bought a House is very, very special to us and I feel like I say that for every song but they all are. That’s why they’re all coming out. Yeah, because they’re real. They’re who we are their real life experiences that we put in the music. And We Bought a House we wrote with Lindsay Rimes and Josh Osborne. Man what a day to write with, I can’t even still like to this moment believe that we wrote with Josh Osborne, he’s the coolest. Yeah. And then Lindsay is just an animal. I mean, he made the whole track. Not only wrote it with us, but made the tracks. Yeah, that that exact demo that he made we put on TikTok and that’s really what pushed the needle to put that that song out. And we did buy a house and that’s why we wrote it with Josh and Lindsay and just kind of remind people how beautiful it is to be able to call a place home even if it’s not a house.”
Kat & Alex – Still In It (VIDEO)
Kat & Alex – Still In It (AUDIO)
“Still In It is one of the very first songs that we wrote over zoom. We came to Nashville in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, and our very first writing session was through zoom. Still in it was one of those zoom writing sessions. We wrote it with Jason Massey and Austin Taylor. And it was about six hours of almost complete silence on a zoom call people just noodling guitars and throwing out ideas until the sixth hour. Yeah, literally until the sixth hour. Just everything poured out. Literally in an hour. We waited six hours and then that last hour everything just came out and Still In It was born. And it basically talks about you break up with somebody but you can’t get rid of them. There’s still little remnants of them around your life. And even though we haven’t broken up and we’re never gonna break up, No, we’re stuck together like peanut butter and jelly forever. It kind of describes like, how I personally, at least me, I would feel if I ever lost her. Oh, I’m not going anywhere. You’re stuck with me. Good luck. That’s Still In It.”
Kat & Alex – I Want It All (Spanglish Version) (VIDEO)
Kat & Alex – I Want It All (Spanglish Version) (AUDIO)
The reason why we decided to include a Spanish slash English version of I Want It All on our EP Side A is because we wanted to kind of foreshadow the next part of the project which is Lado B, which is going to be all in Spanish. And being that Spanish is our first language. And that’s how we grew up, you know, the culture and everything we wanted to mix both worlds in the one song. And also people have been getting married and have been saying we want a mixed version of this song, because we have some family members that only speak English and some that only speak Spanish. And it just felt natural because we speak Spanglish all the time, and it’s a special song for us. We’re like, why don’t we just do it? Yeah. So we hope you guys enjoy I Want It All (Spanglish).”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sony Music Nashville buzzworthy duo Kat & Alex released Side A of their self-titled EP today. Listen here.

Growing up, Kat & Alex recalled seeing ‘Lado A’ and ‘Lado B’ (translation: ‘Side A’ and ‘Side B’) on their parents’ records. The duo has made it their mission to share music that reaches and celebrates a diverse and expansive audience including Spanish speakers like themselves, so with their debut EP, they decided to release an entirely Spanish version as well. In celebration of the kickoff of Hispanic Heritage Month, the couple announced that they’ll be releasing Lado B on September 30. Pre-order/add/save here

“Sonically, the project is a melting pot…introducing two different worlds,” Kat & Alex said. “You’ll hear country, which is the root of it, as well as some rock, soul and pop. The common theme of the music though is love, which is purposeful because our relationship is full of love and it’s the core of everything we do.”

“Our mission is to show that there’s an audience of Spanish speakers that love country music. It’s not just for one group of people, it can be shared and created by anyone. If you love it, you can make it,” Kat & Alex said.

Kat & Alex co-wrote every track on the project aside from “Marry You,” which was written by labelmate Maren Morris along with Busbee. “When we heard this song, we felt like this it told our story, which was really cool because it was Maren’s song to her husband, Ryan Hurd. We reimagined it as a duet and added a bit of Latin drums to make it our own.”

Recently singled out as an Emerging Latin Artist to Discover by Billboard and named a CMT Listen Up artist for 2022, Kat & Alex are “well on their way to stardom” (People Magazine) and continue to establish themselves as Nashville’s most compelling outliers.

Kat & Alex – What This EP Means (AUDIO)
“This EP means a lot to us. It’s really cool being able to not only put out new music as a collection, but to also give a glimpse into what our relationship is. The EP is really, really heavy set on like love songs and the emotion of love, which is what is the foundation of our relationship in real life. So it’s just a direct representation of who we are through music.”

About Kat & Alex:For as much as Kat & Alex embody classic country stylings and values, the Nashville-based duo also rewrite the rules altogether with a Latin twist. The husband-and-wife pair shake up country with full-bodied soulful delivery, engaging live instrumentation, and bilingual lyrics, introducing themselves as Nashville’s most compelling outliers. Kat is a Miami native and first-generation American from a Cuban family. Alex, who is of Puerto Rican descent, grew up in Northwestern Georgia and moved to Miami by middle school. Their paths crossed after Kat witnessed Alex singing one day at their church, and the two quickly forged an eternal bond after meeting up to collaborate. They appeared on American Idol individually before returning home to focus on writing and recording original music as a duo, and then made their way to Nashville in 2020, igniting a life-altering couple of years. Kat & Alex released their debut single “How Many Times” and its accompanying Spanish version in the fall of 2020, which amassed nearly 20 million streams independently. The following year the couple tied the knot, made their Grand Ole Opry debut, and released several new tracks to critical acclaim including “Heartbreak Tour,” which The New York Times dubbed as “an earnest power country slow-burner.” Named a 2022 Artist to Watch by Sounds Like Nashville and Country Now as well as a CMT “Listen Up” artist, the duo continues to make waves with their scorching signature style while resolutely representing Hispanic culture in country music with a sound that’s rich and soulful with velvet harmonies, pop-like vocal riffs, and hooky lyrics. Their latest releases, “I Want It All” and its accompanying Spanish version “Yo Quiero Amarte,” and “Let’s Find A Bar” along with its Spanish version, “Tomemos Un Trago,” set the tone of what’s to come later this year for the country music trailblazers.
