““Soul Food” Work Parts
So “Soul Food” came about. I was getting back in LA from Thanksgiving. I spent Thanksgiving down in Tulsa, Oklahoma with my family. And it’s just always the best like my whole family, everybody go to Tulsa or in Shreveport and we vibe out but we were in Tulsa this year. And I got back to LA and I got on a mic. And, Jason put on this like 90s kind of like, bag beep and I just thought that was so cool to hear and country one, But I just got on a mic. And, I just started freestyling about food, because I just came back from Tulsa. And “Soul Food” just came about, And, I remember on the freestyle, I was like, thicker than mac and cheese, some about collard greens, and then I was like, Ooh, let’s just talk about a woman. Let’s talk about love and how you know, love is good for the soul. And “Soul Food” came about.
“Slow Cookin'” Work Parts
“Slow Cookin'” came about, I was actually in Los Angeles hosting the writing camp and had a lot of dope writers out there. And, we were just trying to figure out how to like push the envelope and just you know, do something just fly and I wanted to sample a song and my boy Jason Afable, who we’ve done a lot of great work together, brought up Hank Williams “Hey, Good Lookin’.” And I was like Hank Williams on a Willie Jones song? We got to do it. So getting Hank Williams inspiration on one of my songs like I just couldn’t pass it up you know, I’m saying so we were in a studio just listening to different music for inspiration and we came across “Hey, Good Lookin'” and you know, I never really hear people flip country songs in country music like as far as sampling goes. So, I wanted to take this Country Classic, you know, this Old Country Classic, and flip it and hopefully make a new Country Classic. You know, I’m saying so “Slow Cookin'” came out. I was in the studio Jason Afable, T baby and we just got in and we cooked a delicious vibe.

The southern-sized helping of new music from the Louisiana native features two new songs, “Soul Food” and “Slow Cookin’” — both available now.
On each track, the breakout newcomer “cooks up” his own taste of modern-day romance, complete with Jones’ smooth, baritone vocals fusing with his swampy, signature sound. Nodding to his Shreveport roots and the staples of southern cuisine, Jones is always coming back for seconds.

Tipping his hat to one of the best known country cooking songs of all time, “Slow Cookin’” also samples Hank Williams’ timeless tune, “Hey, Good Lookin’,” putting a modern, unexpected spin on the 1950s hit, while also calling out the legendary tunesmith in the lyrics.
Dubbed one of Pandora’s 2022 Country Artists to Watch, Jones’ ‘2-Piece Combo’ follows his feel-good anthem, “Get Low, Get High,” and swampy, summertime jam, “Down By The Riverside,” which garnered his second late-night TV appearance with a “rousing” (Rolling Stone) performance on ABC’s”Jimmy Kimmel Live!” earlier this year.
