Maren Morris on CMA Nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year

It’s always kind of shocking to get nominated for CMA Female Vocalist just because the like the giants that have left footprints from that category are huge. And having won the award last year for Female Vocalist was so emotional and such a shock. I am just always floored and I love that especially the last few years that category has really mirrored the women that have been the most active in that year in their body of works. So with this year, I feel like you know, Miranda who’s just always hustling and upping the game, Ashley McBryde has had a massive year with one of my favorite songs. And then Carly as well. I think this is her first time being nominated in Vocalist so that’s a huge, huge thing for her and I know how much respect she has for the women of country music so to be in that category, I’m so proud of her. Yeah, I mean the whole thing is just it’s so cool to be a part of and Gabby as well. So it’s gonna be a fun year to see what happens but honestly it’s never really to me as a voter about who sings the best. It’s like honoring who worked their tail off that year and people took notice of so that’s who I’ll be voting for.

Maren Morris on CMA Nomination for Musical Event of the Year with Ryan Hurd

Music Event. “Event” just sounds so epic. But I guess that’s an event during COVID, especially to put any music out. So to be yeah, whittled down to those five is a huge honor and then the Music Video category. I’ve been in once, maybe before. And it’s such a cool thing that they even have that category of the CMA’s because, you know, music videos are another facet of this artful paradigm we all do. And so I love the visual aspect as much as the audio and sonic aspects. So I love that they honor that and TK McKamy our director of the “Chasing After You” music video just killed it. And we were able to keep all the heart and soul of what the song is but then elevate it into this very tension, like sexy kind of smoky, avant garde vibe. And yeah, I think we were able to pull it off. So we’re very excited to have that category nomination.

Maren Morris on Ryan Hurd’s first CMA Nomination

Well, I mean, there’s like so much video footage of him like with me at awards. And if I’m on stage accepting one, I mean, he’s always the one on the camera in the crowd. So yeah, I just feel like a proud wife seeing his name there and you know, you never forget your first time being nominated and just having your peers acknowledge you in that way and your art in that way. So he’s not taking it for granted. And I’m just so excited to have those tables turn his direction and be the superstar and he’s, he’s killing it. So I’m very proud.

Grammy-winning superstar Maren Morris continues to shatter records and garner critical acclaim for her 2019 LP GIRL—the album’s hit single “The Bones” is now certified 4x Platinum. The song dominated 2020, topping the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for 19 consecutive weeks and becoming the first solo female multi-week #1 at country radio since 2012.

Moreover, the reigning Female Vocalist of the Year claims three new nominations this year at The 55th Annual CMA Awards, including another for Female Vocalist of the Year. “Chasing After You,” her first official duet with husband Ryan Hurd, has been nominated for Musical Event of the Year and Music Video of the Year.

“Chasing After You” was recently certified GOLD and is currently in the top 10 at country radio. The video was directed by TK McKamy, watch HERE.
