Story Behind the Song Audio: Cold Beer & Copenhagen
So “Cold Beer & Copenhagen” was actually one of the craziest songs I’ve written. We’d wrote seven songs that day already on my house boat, and we’d been drinking, it’s probably two in the morning. And I’d had that idea in my phone for about a week or two and I pitched that idea and we all kind of loved it and we stayed up till we watch the sunrise writing that song. So it was it’s by far one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. And I’m really excited for the world to get hear it.

Today, Villa 40/RCA Nashville singer/songwriter Drew Green announced the forthcoming Oct. 29 release of Dirt Boy Vol. 2, the final leg of a two-EP musical journey he began over a year ago when he dropped Dirt Boy Vol. 1 . “I am the definition of dirt boy,” Green proudly explains. “That’s the nickname given to those raised on a farm like I was. I learned to drive on my dad’s John Deere at 7 years old, and, I married the girl of my dreams who grew up only three miles down the road.” He continues, “I always wanted to use ‘Dirt Boy’ as a title, it sums up my music and everything I am about.”

Pre-add/pre-save the new EP HERE.

Green also announced dropping “Cold Beer and Copenhagen,” one of five new tracks featured on Dirt Boy Vol. 2. “This song gives a glimpse of a softer side of my songwriting,” he claims. “It’s my favorite song I’ve written so far – it’s a change of pace for me, and one of the more personal songs I’ve written since I got my record deal.”

But you’re just another thing I need to quit
Even though I know its only for one night
What’s one more gonna hurt, it’s only one more time
I ought to put you on that list
Things I love but wish I hated
With cold beer and Copenhagen

Written by Green, Smith Ahnquist and Brent Anderson, “Cold Beer and Copenhagen” is available now at all music digital service providers and everywhere music is streamed or sold. Listen HERE.

About Drew Green

McMinnville, Tennessee native Drew Green set the tone for his roots narrative when he dropped Dirt Boy Vol. 1 in Sept. 2020. This seven-song collection, released via Villa 40/Sony Music Nashville, featured the streaming successes “She Got That” and “Little More Be Alright.” Unlike many of his country peers, Drew didn’t immediately make music a priority upon going to college. Instead, he pursued a degree in finance, landing a promising job at a local bank upon graduating. But his desire to make it big in Nashville was always in the back of his mind, particularly because he’d already felt a taste of it as a performer at Nashville’s famed hotspot Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. When an opportunity for a promotion came up at the bank, Drew was inspired to turn it down and give music one more shot. He is the first to admit that it wasn’t an overnight success story from there. But in late 2018, his decision paid off, as Florida Georgia Line put a hold on his song “Colorado,” and they released it on their Can’t Say I Ain’t Country album the next year. Later in 2019, Drew Green landed his first music publishing deal with Warner Chappell Nashville and Grammy winner Brett James’ company, Cornman Music. Subsequently, Drew brought on James as his manager and credits him with helping to score Green his record deal with Villa 40/Sony Music Nashville last year.
