I was initially hesitant to do a Christmas song, but with everything going on in the world right now it just felt like a good song for the times and really relevant. It’s always been my favorite Christmas song and it was really cool to go into the studio and kind of put my own version on it, so I hope everybody likes it.

My favorite holiday memory growing up was one year when I was living in Washington, we did kind of really light presents, pretty much no presents, and we all woke up Christmas morning and drove out to Seattle and we did like a little staycation. Me and my family, we got a hotel room and ate at a really nice dinner place and it just kind of holds a special memory for me. It was more about the experience at Christmas and less about getting gifts for everybody, and it really sticks out as a special one for me.

NASHVILLE, TENN. – Sony Music Nashville singer-songwriter Joey Hendricks released a cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” today to all streaming platforms and digital retailers. Listen here.

“I was initially hesitant to put out a Christmas song, but this has always been one of my favorites,” says Hendricks. “The Beatles, and especially John Lennon, have been such a huge inspiration to me. With it being the 40th anniversary of his passing this December and with everything going on in the world right now, this song just seemed so relevant.”

Called “the Nashville John Mayer” by Pop-Culturalist, Hendricks released his debut song “Yours or Mine” this summer. Originally from Anacortes, Washington, he moved to Nashville in 2017, and quickly made a name for himself in the songwriting community as a talented lyricist and gifted musician. He signed a publishing deal with Parallel Entertainment, whose head, Tim Hunze, encouraged him to make the leap into solo artistry by cutting a few of his own songs. Heavily inspired by generational songwriters like Neil Young and John Mayer, Hendricks ’ music has a timeless quality, touching on heartland rock themes like childhood nostalgia and restlessness while steeped in country storytelling tradition.
