Story Audio for Rachel Wammack’s “What He Does”
The inspiration for “What He Does” came from my sweet, sweet husband… now! At the time when I wrote this song, we were just dating and we’d started getting really serious and I wanted to write a song for him. I just kept thinking, you know, he’s so different than any other guy that I liked or dated or whatever. And I was writing with Jimmy Robbins and Eric Arjes and as I was telling them, you know, how Noah was different, they were like ‘Well, let just write a song that’s what all the other guys didn’t do What He Does.’ I was like ‘Yes! That’s great.’ I know all about that. So yeah, that’s how What He Does came to be.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Emerging RCA Records Nashville recording artist Rachel Wammack has shared her new track, “What He Does.” The piano-led song, which Wammack wrote alongside Jimmy Robbins and Eric Arjes, was inspired by the singer’s husband and his unwavering love and support for her. Listen here.

“I wanted to write something that lifted up my man,” Wammack says of the song. “Because that’s what he does to me. He makes life better on the good days and supports me on the hard ones. This is a hopeful song for people who have been through those difficult relationships, letting them know that love is always a possibility.”

“What He Does” follows Wammack’s “When I Say Amen,” which has garnered significant critical acclaim since its release in April, with Music Row praising it as “a piano ballad that works as a spiritual balm for a world that has plunged into pandemic darkness…This lady always rules.” Named a country artist to watch in 2020 by Paste Magazine, Wammack more recently shined on “Quick, Fast, In A Hurry,” a duet with Rascal Flatts which appeared on their EP released in July.

About Rachel Wammack: The 26-year-old Muscle Shoals, AL native has a “deep-rooted, classic sound” (Wide Open Country) influenced heavily by the rich musical heritage of her hometown. Her songs showcase a “powerful, raw, honest collection” (All Access), which has earned her recognition as the only artist in the genre selected for Entertainment Weekly’s “2019 Artists to Watch” list. Wammack introduced the “heartfelt, moving” (Music Row) “When I Say Amen” earlier this year, a song in which she co-wrote that unveils her depth and breadth both as a songwriter and vocalist. The singer is named one of Paste Magazine ’s “10 Country Artists to Watch in 2020,” while earning “2019 Artist to Watch” acclaim from multiple outlets including AOL, Pandora, Music Row, Pop Culture, Sounds Like Nashville, and more. Selected for CMT’s “Next Women of Country” as well as Bobby Bones “Class of 2019,” Wammack shares “an undeniable air of confidence and sincerity when she performs” (Taste of Country).
