1. GOOD TIME
Hey it’s Niko Moon and this is my new song, Good Time.
Good Time, for me, is about having a good time in its most simplest form. I got this mantra that I like to live by and it’s just this glass half full, have a good time. I mean it’s literally tattooed on my body. That was really the foundation of the album. And, that’s what I think Good Time is. I actually originally started it with two buddies of mine, Mark Trussell and Jordan Minton. We cam up with this concept of relating a good time to fishing, like ‘I’m just trying to catch a Good Time, even if it takes all night.’ And, we really weren’t sure what we were going to do with it. And then, once we started writing my album, there was this space for that type of song. That song that would be kind of the foundation of the entire album- kind of that root that everything connects to. But, the way that we demoed it wasn’t really quite my vibe. So I was like ‘well, what if I take it to my writing team that I’m making my album with, which is my wife Anna Moon and Josh Murty and we put my thing on it. And, we give it that swag that the album is you know. So we re-looked at it and kind of moved a couple pieces around and then it became what it is now. And, I wanted it to have this super kind of like mixed world- like your sitting around a camp fire and your just hanging out. So, there was no electric guitars in the song. It’s all acoustic so you feel that feeling like you’re kinda next to the lake or next to the river and just chilling around a campfire. And then, 20 seconds in BOOM, the beat drops in and you’re like Oh we are not just by the lake. You know, there’s this other thing going on too. So, I love the rub of that. I love mixing those two worlds together. That’s my favorite part about taking Atlanta and Douglasville and putting them together.

2. DRUNK OVER YOU
Hey it’s Niko Moon and this is my new song, Drunk Over You.
So I wrote Drunk Over You with Anna Moon, my wife, and Josh Murty. And, I had a buddy that was having a hard time getting over a breakup. He was doing what a lot of do when you’re going thru something tough like that. You kind of party your way through it, you know? And, talking to him and him kind of coming to this realization that drowning the heartache isn’t always the best way to get over somebody and at some point you have this Ah-ha moment of I’m just wasting my time by doing this. This is not the way to get through it. And so, I wanted to have this getting over heartbreak song, but looking at it from a glass half full type of perspective. And, Anna, made this comment, ‘it’s almost like getting drunk over somebody is wasted time.’ And I was like ‘Yo! that’s it! That’s the song. That’s the song right there. We should call it Drunk Over You.’ And so, I’m always looking for those type of ideas. Sometimes I think them up. Sometimes around me, people will just- people are so poignant. People say the most clever things all the time to me, but they’re just saying them in conversation. And they’ll just randomly say something and I think the difference between a songwriter and someone who’s not a songwriter, is the songwriter just kind of makes a little mental note like ‘Oh wow. That’s a song.’ You know and pull your phone out and put it in your notepad, you know. So as soon as I heard that I knew that was how we should tell that type of story.

3. WAY BACK
Hey Niko Moon here and this is my new song, Way Back.
Way Back is about my best friends. I’m talking since we were kids, life long best friends. I wanted to write a song that really talks about how awesome that friendship can be. I mean we don’t get the chance to all get together as much as we would like anymore cuz we are all so busy, but when we do like no time has passed. That’s just the kind of friendship that we got. It’s that kind that lasts and goes on and on, you know. I mean we’ll be (laughs) we’ll be this way when were 80 years old ya know. So, that’s what Way Back‘s about.

4. PARADISE TO ME
Hey this is Niko Moon and this is my new song, Paradise to Me.
Paradise to Me is all about the lake. I grew up about 15 minutes away from the lake, but I was hours away from the beach. And, I can remember thinking one day, you know, there’s so many beach song out there, but for me, my memories of growing up on the water are growing up on the lake. So, I wanted to make that lake song for all my people out there. So, we’re trading palm trees for pontoons with this one.

5. GOOD AT LOVING YOU
Hey this is Niko Moon. You’re about to hear my song, Good at Loving You.
Niko Moon: So this is my wife, Anna Moon. And, a lot of people don’t know this, but she’s not just not my wife. She actually my songwriting partner. And every song on the album and the Good Time EP that’s coming out was written with her. So, we thought we would talk about one of our songs that we wrote together called Good at Loving You. I was actually out on the road with a buddy of mine, Blake Bollinger, and we were writing some songs. And, I came up with this idea really out of inspiration of my own life about how pretty terrible I am at most things in life, but the one thing that I’m halfway decent at is loving her and music. That’s just about all I am decent at. So, and he also really identified with that as well. He’s married. Blake’s married as well. So, we kind of got started on the song and we had written like most of the chorus. But, we ran out of time and that was it. That’s kind of all we had. It was more of a song idea. And then fast forward six months later, I’m working on the album and I brought the song to Anna and Josh [Murty] and kind of showed them the idea of the song. And, they love it. They loved the concept. And, you know, I told them I just felt like it’d be a great fit for the album and it just really feels honest and true to who I am as a person and what our relationship is really like. So, we started writing it and I finished it with her and Josh. And, it was a lot of fun because you’re writing this song about this relationship with the person you’re in the relationship with, which is a pretty cool experience.
Anna Moon: Everybody always just thinks I’m writing sweet songs about myself. My family gives me so much grief for it. Don’t they?
Niko Moon: Yeah, yeah. (Anna laughs). Well, I always say all the best lines in the song, she wrote (Niko and Anna laugh)
