Hey y’all, this is Mitchell Tenpenny and this is my new song, “Can’t Go to Church.”
What’s up y’all, this is Mitchell Tenpenny and that was my new song, “Can’t Go to Church.”
I’ve been wanting to write this song for years. I’ve had this title in my phone since literally high school when I was dating this girl that I broke up with. We went to the same church. And, the whole concept was when you break up with someone, you don’t want to see them. And, I knew that if I went to church at the exact church we went to, I would see her. So, it wasn’t about not going to church or seeing your friends, it was about, you know, not wanting to see her.
I want people to take away an actual emotion from this song. Something that… Where someone was so torn apart by a relationship that they would go to a place to avoid them at all cost, like not go to church. Which you know is true. Sometimes when you’re in those relationships these are the kind of things that happen and, again, it’s not about losing your faith or not wanting to go to church, but you just don’t want to see her ever again.

My prediction for the Super Bowl this year has gotta be the Chiefs. I think Mahomes is such a special talent. And, you know, Garoppolo’s incredible too. It’s gonna be really hard to stop Pat (Mahomes). I think he wants- that team wants it bad and I’m going for the Chiefs.
