Brooks & Dunn: Kix Brooks reflects on the Duo’s Country Music Hall of Fame Induction and Exhibit (Audio)
“Well, it’s pretty hard to describe in words what it means to you to get the news you are going to be in the Country Music Hall of Fame. I mean I look on that wall where those plaques are and you see Hank Williams and Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash… Those people I will never consider to be my peers. It’s kind of like I guess when you get invited to a party and you look around and there’s a bunch of famous people that you don’t even know what to say to them, but it’s just kind of cool being in the room. Well, that’s kind of how it feels. It’s obviously a great honor, but it’s going to take a while to digest.”
“Well, it’s first a great honor to have an exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame. I’ve been going to the Hall of Fame since I first came to town before I ever had a song recorded as a songwriter. And, to think that Ronnie and I have had enough of a career that all our stuff is up there- that’s pretty dang cool. I gotta say when they came to the house to see what we might be able to give, you know, for this exhibit, they were asking about our awards. And I’m like, ‘Yeah sure.’ And they said, ‘Well how many can we have?’ I said, ‘I don’t care. How many do you want?’ I mean I can’t think of a better place for them to be displayed. I’ve certainly already seen them. And they said, ‘Well, can we have them all?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure. I mean, yeah.’ So they loaded up this truck with all these awards that Ronnie and I have won of the years. They did the same thing at his house. And, as part of that exhibit they have put them all together in one spot. You know that’s a lot of great memories just in one place right there. When you get those awards, you know the excitement of that moment’s so special, but then you just start working on the next project that you’re involved in. And to see all those memories and those moments kind of represented by those awards sitting there in one place… when I first saw that it was a little overwhelming. I had to stand there and scratch my head for a minute and go ‘Wow that’s been quite a ride.”
