Luke Combs: talks us through the moment he was invited to be the next Grand Ole Opry member (Audio)
Man! Just talk about not knowing what to say or like what to do. And yeah, they got me real good because my parents were here and I didn’t know it. All- I mean everybody I with is here and I didn’t know it. I went out to dinner with my fiance and like, I’m sure that she knew. And, usually I’m the guy that’s like, I’m like ‘something’s going on.’ I can always kind of tell, but I was like genuinely floored- like absolutely flabbergasted like when John and Craig and Chris came out I was like- cuz all I had my ears in. We finished our third song and I knew we were doing four songs. And, I heard them say Luke Combs and I was like ‘Oh well like I guess we’re only doing 3. I guess I heard wrong cuz I thought it was like play me off and then like someone is touch my shoulder and I’m like ‘What’s going on here?’ And then they’re like ‘We’re gonna sing with ya.’ And I’m like ‘Oh, ok. Great. Like, lets do it.’ And you know, holy cow! I just can’t believe it and I’m standing here in the circle and like- I can’t believe we’re having this conversation. It’s just- I just can’t even put it into words really. It’s unbelievable.
