FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Miranda Lambert Gets 9 CMA Noms In 2010

Flashback to August 2010, when Miranda Lambert received 9 CMA Award nominations.

In late August 2010 Miranda Lambert not only got to announce the nominations for the CMA Awards that year, but she received a whooping nine nominations in connection to her album Revolution. Miranda became the first (and so far only) woman in CMA Awards history to rack up nine nominations in the same year. She was nominated in the categories of Single, Song, Music Video, Musical Event, Album, Female Vocalist, and Entertainer Of The Year. Miranda had multiple nominations in both the Single and Music Video categories for her number-one hits “The House That Built Me” and “White Liar.” Both songs also landed in the Song Of The Year category, earning a nod for Miranda and co-writer Natalie Hemby for “White Liar” and a nomination for writers Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin for “The House That Built Me.”

While each of the nominations meant a lot to Miranda, she was additionally excited because her tally of nine CMA nominations in a single year matches a record first set in 1970 by her musical hero Merle Haggard (only Alan Jackson has surpassed that mark, earning 10 nods in 2002).

Miranda would go on to win three of her nominations–Album Of The Year for Revolution, Music Video Of The Year for “The House That Built Me,” and Female Vocalist Of The Year, the first of her 6 straight wins in that category, before her friend Carrie Underwood broke the streak in 2016. While she was not available for an award in the category, Miranda’s song “The House That Built Me” did win Single Of The Year as well.

“I’m so thankful that my peers in the industry felt like I deserved this many accolades, this much recognition for what I’m doing. I mean that means the world. It absolutely means the world. A lot of these people that I’m in these categories with are my friends, that I made on the road, and that I’ve toured with, that I’ve spent time with, and written songs with, and it’s really cool that we’re going up against each other, but we’re so close. I think to be nominated it’s awesome, but if you lose, at least you’re losing to your buddy (laughs), and so I think that’s what’s so cool about country music, and I felt it’s just amazing.”

“I think my favorite part about the whole thing is that I’ve set the record, I’ve tied with my hero, my ultimate hero, which is Merle Haggard for nine nominations in the history of the CMAs. That’s just so fitting for me, and I’m hoping that sets my career up for one as long as Merle Haggard’s, because it’s a huge deal.”
